Celebrating Kyle Garden Square
A celebration years in the making
As longtime supporters of Alliance know, the recent Kyle Garden Square Grand Opening was a long time coming.
The remodeled building, originally built in 1921 as a nurses' dormitory for the Swedish Hospital, opened last fall and has already reached full occupancy. The grand opening was a chance to celebrate not just the work that went into the building, but the community that is beginning to grow there, and the partnerships that help make it all possible.
Touchstone Mental Health is onsite 24 hours a day, seven days a week, helping residents navigate the transitions (and paperwork) that can come with moving out of homelessness and into stable housing. Property Solutions & Services handles onsite property management, ensuring the building operates smoothly and that residents have a safe, reliable, well-maintained place to call home.
At the grand opening, speakers from the city, county, and state levels came together to celebrate and remind us how many partners it takes to make projects like this possible. As they said again and again: supportive housing works. And when the government at every level comes together to fund it, we can make it happen.
But what makes Kyle Garden Square a true community is not the remodeled homes, the services, or ongoing maintenance. It’s what residents are building themselves.
They are planning potlucks, starting morning reflection groups, and connecting with each other. Where nurses once gathered around a swimming pool, residents now have a community room and courtyard to gather and connect.
Perhaps the most meaningful voice grand opening belonged to Pat, a Kyle Garden Square resident, who spoke about what having a stable home means and how she helps to build community in the building. Pat is far from alone in building that community.
We are proud of what Kyle Garden Square has and will continue to become, and believe that everyone, regardless of their background or circumstances, deserves a place like it to call home and build community.
