An Update On Our Scattered Site
Last year, at our MPLS Homes breakfast, we shared with supporters that Alliance would begin transitioning ownership of our small buildings—those with eight homes or fewer—to individual, local owners.
This is part of our broader effort to strengthen Alliance’s long-term organizational sustainability and ensure we can continue advancing our mission for years to come.
These small, scattered-site buildings are an important part of our history and the organization’s early foundation in providing low-barrier access to deeply affordable housing for our neighbors in Minneapolis. We honor that legacy by seeking mission-aligned, responsible owners who will steward these homes with care, while also building a strong financial future for Alliance.
We are currently working to sell five of our 22 small buildings, with the goal of completing these sales by the end of the calendar year. Throughout each sale process, we are carefully considering how the transition will affect current and future housing stability for residents. In some cases, residents will remain in their current homes after ownership transitions. In other cases, Alliance, in collaboration with our partner Touchstone Mental Health, is working to support residents in securing new housing that offers long-term affordability and stability.
We look forward to sharing more about these individual transitions once ownership has changed hands.
Looking ahead to 2027, we also plan to sell five of Alliance’s duplexes to individual low- to moderate-income owners. These new owners will live in one unit of the duplex and rent the second unit, creating an opportunity for homeownership while preserving rental housing in our community.
